European Breakdown Cover for Camper Vans

Unlike many operators we understand that there are often valid reasons for taking a campervan to Europe other than pure commercial reasons. If you own, rent or have access to a camper van then we can insure you as standard providing the trip is not being made for commercial gain.

This is great news for those whose campervan doubles as their personal vehicle, those with larger parties who need more space for their family and friends and those who need more space for their hobbies such as fishing or camping trips.

Want to know more about driving your camper van in Europe? Read our guides to specific countries, and ensure you understand the different rules and regulations for driving in Europe.

Our European breakdown policies for camper vans offer excellent all round levels of cover, designed to prepare you for a range of eventualities. With either single trip or annual insurance for your campervan, we can help you get back on the road. For example, if your campervan requires roadside assistance while in Europe, our breakdown cover can make sure you are towed to a local garage, given a replacement car or even provided with overnight accommodation. Alternatively, our policies can support you if your camper van is stolen, or if you require legal funds.

What we offer

Three levels of European breakdown cover and options for annual multitrip and single trip policies. Single trip policies cover a maximum duration of 180 days, but if you regularly travel through Europe, or feel like making a habit of it, then you can consider the possibility of getting an annual multitrip policy which will cover an unlimited number of trips with a maximum duration of 31 days per trip (with options for 62 and 93).

Book for immediate cover

Many breakdown providers will not provide assistance in the first 48 to 72 hours after a policy has been issued in order to combat potentially fraudulent claims. This is not ideal if your need is genuine and your on your way abroad. This could then result in you potentially driving around Europe uninsured until this "no claim" period has passed.

If you need to "book and go", our Eurobreakdown policies will provide instant cover provided you have not left the UK and you have not had an incident and intend to claim.

Instant documentation

Whenever you book online or via the call centre, the policy certificate, wording and emergency contact details are emailed to you instantly.

Everything that you require for emergency assistance during your trip will be contained within these emailed documents.

No callout limits per trip

The Eurobreakdown policies set no limits on the number of times you can call for assistance during your trip. So if you need help, call and we'll provide whatever assistance is required to get you and your camper van on your way again in the shortest possible timeframe.

Area of European breakdown cover

You are covered in the direct journeys between your home and your international departure point from the UK and on into Europe until such time as you complete your journey back to your home address in the UK.

For the purpose of defining the area of cover, Europe is defined with 3 areas:

Area 1: Travel only to the following: Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Netherlands, United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

Area 2: Andorra, Austria, Canaries, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, lceland, ltaly, Liechtenstein, Madeira, Monaco, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Vatican City.

Area 3: (Rest of Europe): Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia.

A camper van is defined as being:
7 metres or less in length
3 metres or less in height
2.3 metres or less in width
Weighs 3.5 tons or less

Max camper van occupants

Our policies cover up to 8 passengers including the driver. Assistance will be provided to each individual for onward travel to their destination including the option for car hire or local accommodation costs if they lose the use of their campervan for more than 8 hours.

Max camper van dimensions

If your campervan needs recovering from the side of a road and to be taken to a garage or a safe storage area then it will need to be winched onto a recovery vehicle. In order to do this safely we need to ensure that the overall maximum dimensions of any campervan recovered are: 8 metres or less in length, 3 metres or less in height, 2.3 metres or less in width and 3,500 kg or less in weight. Anything longer may cause instability and cause a potential accident.

Towed vehicle length

If your caravan or trailer needs recovering from the side of a road and taken to a garage or a safe storage area then it will need to be winched onto a recovery vehicle. In order to do this safely we need to ensure that the overall maximum length of any towed vehicle recovered is 8 metres or less. Anything longer may cause instability and cause a potential accident.
